Description
The following is a history written by Jerome "The Wise" Invernigon; it has been published in history texts throughout Eridanus.
Prologue
The Void Engineers, at this point the most powerful faith in Eridanus, launched an inquisition on Mebsuta Magna for "Voidcrafters", or those who harnessed the Void outside the formal bounds of the Engineers. The campaign's target is believed to have been Lord Patricus Slick Ink, but it was unsuccessful in doing so. However, the inquisitors' actions, which included seizing individuals in public, sparked multiple riots that resulted in hundreds of deaths.
Mebsuta Magna was and is the home-planet of Emperor Cuthbert Godwinson; the inquisitors acted without his permission or condemnation. The assault on employees of dozens of houses and the resulting civil unrest angered people throughout the galaxy, including the nobility. As a result of the backlash, the Boudiccan governor from Algorab revoked Goratrixian monopolies on the planet, and the Prime Minister (Also Boudiccan) embargoed House Goratrix. As a result, Goratrixian forces attacked House Boudicca on Algorab on the 12th of Faith. (EDITORS NOTE: In a later biography of the life of Erina Boudicca it was stated that she had a personal reason for encouraging hostilities with House Goratrix: a kiss and an unauthorized mind-scan by Patricius Goratrix and that the inqusitions on Mebsuta Magna just provided a public excuse.)
Escalation:
The response from the Eridani coalition was quick. There was a strong possibility, some concluded, that this could last a long time; as a result, EC members went after economic targets as well as military ones.
The first retalition came from Pershing, the most powerful member of the Eridani Coalition. House Dastonei, Invernigon and Quest eventually entered the fray.
Notable Actions:
Much of the combat centered around Algorab; every belligerent sent forces to attempt revenge on that planet. The Second Battle of Algorab lasted from the 14th to the 26th; in all, at least twenty EC legions were involved there. House Quest entered the battle on the 26th to deliver the coup-de-grace.
There were significant Allied losses on Diphda and Eltanin, both of which were hard-fought. House Invernigon's leadership fled its headquarters in Eltanin to Celaeno, but were followed by Goratrixian forces, who forced them again to flee. A notable offensive action was the assault on Albis 7. An Invernigonian Reconaissance battalion was sent; upon seeing little in the way of a garrison, Major T. Om defied orders and assaulted the "indominitable" fortress, taking it easily.
Conclusion:
A cease-fire was reached after a decisive Invernigonian defeat at Celeano; Patricius Goratrix insisted that his blood debt be settled without retaliation from the alliance, who agreed.
The war, although a tactical victory for House Goratrix, was not necessarily a strategic one. The Eridani Coalition did manage to draw blood; 6 to 15 Goratrixian legions were destroyed, along with two fortresses; total damages to House Goratrix are estimated at $700,000-$1,000,000. While the Eridani Coalition suffered about twice the military losses, House Goratrix ceased to be percieved as an untouchable monolith.
